Youth Co-Op Charter School Reviews

School looks like an institution and not very supportive of students individual needs. Lots of students with behavior problems. Would not recommend

I'm a student at this school and it's realy good. But I wish the school was bigger because the halls are over-populated. It's so hard to walk through them inbeetween classes.

School is ridiculously overrated. Tons of homework and projects for the parents. Kids are reprimanded for every little thing. Much too strict, constant criticism, to the point of affecting a child's self esteem.

My daughter goes to this school and yes it is true they are very oriented in the FCAT and test taking. Not much art or music. But I don't care. I am happy knowing its a small, safe, school where everyone knows your name. My daughter did great in all her tests. Music and dance I can pay for.

Academicly they are doing something right at this school. The state test scores are high. But as a former teacher at YCCS I can say that there is great pressure to prepare the students for the 'test.' They are really trained to take the state exam. There is very little creative innovatin encourraged and there is ablsolutle no student leadership support. This is a very basic school focused on tests.

Youth Co-Op has it's good and not so good things. For example the classes are pretty small. My kids 2 & 3 grade classes have only 22 kids. They are working on lowering the amount of kids per class down to 18. You can see that they are trying to improve. Also, the principle is very involved in the school activities and you can request a meeting with her and it won't take a month to schedule it. Usually within a couple of days. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they do not tolerate any misbehavior by the students. The not so good things are that they have limited sports, music, PE,tutoring and other special classes for needy students. This small school has limited resources in my opinion.

The academics at YCCS have proven to be excellent. There are lots of dedicated teachers that are willing to work with the students. When you walk into the school everyone knows you by name, they make you feel part of YCCS family. The parent involvement is high. Overall I feel YCCS has a lot to offer. Gives our children a good solid educational background and prepares them for High School.

No interesting classes, and not many extra-curricular activities, not a very good school.
